Quip and Liz Ainge
Born unto the world as Ben Eyes and raised in the northern city of Lancaster, Lancashire. Fed a diet of punk, prog, film scores and Mike Oldfield Ben wanted to know how these sounds were made.
He got into making his own sounds and experimenting using four tracks and feedback as a way of generating music without expensive synthesizers. His approach to music has always been kind of lo-fi but with bigger payback. So he likes to use treated guitars with found sounds and field recordings as a background. He uses computer software such as Audiomulch and Bidule to create live performance tools in which he can manipulate the sound of the guitar and treat the recordings. Live sets are usually a mixture of live guitar and processed beats and samples with the focus being very much on keeping things live and fresh.
Recently he has been working with Liz Ainge, a visual artist based in Leeds. They have been creating live audio visual shows using live guitar and processed video to create a live sound track to a film, or a live film to the soundtrack depending on what part of the show your watching. He has also been busy producing compositions for tv documentaries and film.He has released music on I Can Count Music, Hippocamp and an upcoming ep on The Centrifuge.
Quip will perform with Liz Ainge on Wednesday 22nd October on the lounge stage
